Data Analyst

A financial services company based in Cape Town requires a Data Analyst with a Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Actuarial Science and/or other related field. Advanced QlikView design and development skills a must. Knowledge of an analysis tool such as R, Matlab or SAS a plus. Experience working with large data sets, experience working with distributed computing tools a plus (Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc) required.


Knowledge, skills and experience:
• Advanced QlikView design and development skills a must.
• A degree in computer science, Engineering, Actuarial Science and/or other related fields.
• Familiarity with relational databases and SQL.
• Knowledge of an analysis tool such as R, Matlab, or SAS a plus.
• Experience working with large data sets, experience working with distributed computing tools a plus (Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc.).
• Business Analysis skills to map business requirements to technical solutions.

Systems Analyst - Discovery

Systems Analyst Job

Key Purpose:

Reviews CRS and PRS
Implements Technical Solution process at component level
Responsible for detailed design of five to ten components
Guides and the reviews the source code development process with regards to alignment to the technical design
Monitors the systems performance and proactively finds ways to enhance efficiency and ensure stability

Key Outputs:

Decision and Design Artefacts:

Creates a detailed design, logical design, high level mapping (data, process) and code design for components - preparse Component Design specification
Ensures that the technical designs will integrate to required systems, that the designs are technically feasible and aligned to the business and technical strategy.
Assists in developing alternative solution proposals, and participates in the evaluation and selection process
Documents the decision analysis and resolution report
Documents and validate requirements that will be required to document the Release Notes and monitoring team's parameters
Assists Systems Architects in defining the test strategy to test performance on new infrastructure after it has been commissioned
Assists developers in understanding the architectural principles of the environment
Manages weekly team meetings to discuss overall Architecture

Source Code

Implements the Technical Specification using the relevant development language
Produces source code by applying the Discovery Health Systems technical standards, and referencing the systems' exposed sub-processes
Updates the reference documentation and update the scheduling tool with progress
Consults with BA's and Architects on technical issues encountered
Documents logic and comments inside code
Documents Database structure changes and rule changes
Produces or updates the configuration files

Review report

Reviews CRS and PRS
Priors to Go-Live, conduct informal reviews of source code and unit tests to evaluate efficiency, and adherence to standards
Conducts peer reviews of Architectural Specifications for adherence to standards, optimised design and architectural soundness
Problem/Incident Root Cause Analysis Report
Participates in the investigation, diagnosis and solution development and testing related to logged incidents and problems
Documents to relevant findings in a Report


Conducts training and informal coaching with own team
Assists Development Manager during performance reviews by providing input on developer competencies
Technical Competencies:

SDLC, Project Management, Systems Architecture, ITIL processes and CMMI

Qualifications & Experience:
B. Sc (Informatics or Mathematics)
Beneficial - Project Management qualification
